BRATTLEBORO —An earthquake centered in New Jersey was felt throughout southern Vermont on Friday, shaking pictures on walls and leading many to take to social media to essentially ask – what was that?

The magnitude 4.8 earthquake occurred about four and one-third miles north of Whitehouse Station in north central New Jersey at 10:23 a.m.
