On the last day of February, the Brattleboro Winter Farmers Market felt less like a shopping destination and more like a reunion.

The aisles of the gymnasium of the former Austine School of the Deaf and the Hard of Hearing were full, music drifted warmly through the room, and vendors who have weathered two decades of Vermont winters together welcomed customers who lined up to fill their bags.
