TOWNSHEND — Plans are moving forward to ask Jamaica voters if they want to close the elementary school building. 

On Monday, the West River Education District Board voted unanimously to request the town of Jamaica hold the vote on Jan. 14. Language supported by the board involves asking Jamaica residents if they agree to give the School Board authority to close the school on or before June 30, and no longer use the building for an elementary school or education by the district.
