SHELTON, CONN. — Police in three states are looking for a Vermont man accused of dragging a Massachusetts State Trooper with his vehicle before fleeing.
Mason L. Payne, 23, of Weathersfield is "considered armed and dangerous and has made threats to harm law enforcement officers," according to an alert from the Shelton Police Department in Connecticut.
At about 5 p.m. Tuesday, the Dover Police Department responded to a domestic assault in Dover, Vt., involving a weapon. At about 10 p.m., Payne was then stopped by a Massachusetts State Trooper on Interstate 91 in Holyoke, according to the alert.
"During the stop, Payne dragged the trooper several feet with his vehicle before fleeing," the alert states. "The pursuit was terminated for safety reasons."
Payne was driving what police described as an "older black Audi sedan, possibly with temporary Vermont plates."
Police advise anyone who sees Payne or his vehicle not to approach him but to instead "call 911 immediately and provide as many details as possible."
"Officer safety is paramount," police said. "Stay alert."
