BRATTLEBORO — Several programs serving the community operate outside traditional health care funding streams, leaving Brattleboro Memorial Hospital to cover costs while facing a multimillion-dollar deficit.

“These are programs that benefit the community,” Dr. Elizabeth McLarney, interim co-CEO at BMH, said during a media briefing on Thursday. “The more that we can keep people out of the hospital, the healthier our community is going to be.”
